Job Description

As a Tax Specialist, your primary responsibility will be to provide expert tax advice, planning, and compliance services to individuals, businesses, or organizations. You will play a critical role in ensuring tax compliance and optimizing tax strategies.

Minimum Educational Qualification:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a related field.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Enrolled Agent (EA) designation is highly desirable.

Technical Skills:

Tax Specialists should possess a strong foundation in computer science and software development, including proficiency in:

  • Proficiency in tax preparation software, such as Intuit TurboTax or professional tax software like ProConnect Tax Online.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state tax regulations, codes, and compliance requirements.
  • Familiarity with tax planning and optimization strategies.
  • Proficiency in using Excel and financial software for data analysis.
  • Knowledge of tax credits, deductions, and incentives.
  • Excellent understanding of tax reporting and documentation.

Analytical Skills:

  • Advanced data analysis skills, including the ability to interpret financial data and assess tax implications.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to address tax-related challenges and recommend solutions.
  • Capacity to assess the impact of tax law changes on clients and recommend tax strategies accordingly.

Certifications:

While not always mandatory, certifications can enhance a Tax Specialists qualifications. Some relevant certifications include:

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Enrolled Agent (EA) designation is highly beneficial for this role.
  • Other certifications such as Certified Management Accountant (CMA) or Certified Tax Professional (CTP) may be advantageous.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Prepare and file tax returns for individuals, businesses, or organizations.
  2. Conduct tax research and stay updated on changes in tax laws and regulations.
  3. Provide tax advice and planning to clients to optimize their tax positions.
  4. Collaborate with clients to gather and organize tax-related documents and information.
  5. Calculate tax liabilities, deductions, and credits to ensure accurate tax compliance.
  6. Assist in resolving tax-related issues and disputes with tax authorities.
  7. Review and analyze financial statements to identify tax-saving opportunities.
  8. Prepare and maintain accurate and detailed tax records and documentation.
  9. Prepare tax estimates and projections to help clients plan for tax payments.
  10. Assist with tax audits, including preparing documentation and representing clients.
  11. Communicate with clients, government agencies, and stakeholders on tax-related matters.
  12. Develop and maintain tax strategies and plans to minimize tax liabilities.
  13. Provide education and advice to clients on tax strategies and planning.
  14. Stay updated on regulatory and compliance standards related to taxation.
  15. Participate in tax planning and strategy development meetings.
  16. Collaborate with tax attorneys and legal experts when necessary.
  17. Ensure compliance with ethical and legal standards in tax practices.
  18. Mentor and train junior tax specialists or interns.
  19. Collaborate with external partners, such as tax authorities and regulatory bodies.
  20. Manage and maintain tax databases, records, and documentation.

Expected Salary:

  1. Entry-Level : $75,000 to $85,000 per year
  2. Mid-Level : $95,000 to $105,000 per year
  3. Senior-Level : $110,000 to $130,000+ per year
