Job Description

As Network Engineer plays a crucial role in designing, implementing, managing, and optimizing an organization’s network infrastructure. They are responsible for ensuring the reliability, availability, and security of network systems. Network Engineers collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet the organization’s connectivity and communication requirements.

Minimum Educational Qualification:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Some positions may require a Master’s degree or relevant certifications.

Technical Skills:

Network Engineers should possess a strong foundation in computer science and software development, including proficiency in:

  • Proficiency in configuring and maintaining network devices such as routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers.
  • Strong knowledge of networking protocols, including TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, VLANs, and VPNs.
  • Experience with network monitoring and management tools like Wireshark, SNMP, and Cisco Network Assistant.
  • Familiarity with network security principles, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems (IDS), and intrusion prevention systems (IPS).
  • Ability to troubleshoot network issues and perform packet-level analysis.
  • Proficiency in configuring and optimizing WAN and LAN technologies.
  • Knowledge of network virtualization technologies such as VLANs, VRF, and SD-WAN.
  • Experience with cloud networking and hybrid cloud solutions.
  • Strong understanding of network hardware, including Cisco, Juniper, and Palo Alto devices.
  • Familiarity with network automation and scripting languages (e.g., Python, Ansible).
  • Knowledge of IPv6 and its implementation.

Analytical Skills:

  • Strong problem-solving skills to diagnose and resolve complex network issues.
  • Ability to analyze network traffic patterns and optimize network performance.
  • Capacity planning to ensure network scalability and performance.
  • Root cause analysis for identifying and addressing recurring network problems.
  • Security incident analysis and response to detect and mitigate network threats.
  • Trend analysis to predict network growth and resource requirements.
  • Change impact analysis to assess the effects of network configuration changes.

Certifications:

While not always mandatory, certifications can enhance a Systems Administrators qualifications. Some relevant certifications include:

  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
  • Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP)
  • CompTIA Network+
  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
  • Juniper Networks Certified Internet Associate (JNCIA)
  • Juniper Networks Certified Internet Professional (JNCIP)
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate (for cloud networking roles)

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Design, implement, and maintain network solutions to meet organizational requirements.
  2. Configure and manage network hardware and software components, including routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers.
  3. Monitor network performance, security, and availability using appropriate tools.
  4. Troubleshoot and resolve network issues, minimizing downtime and impact on users.
  5. Implement and enforce network security measures to protect against unauthorized access and cyber threats.
  6. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to plan and execute network upgrades and migrations.
  7. Develop and maintain network documentation, including diagrams and standard operating procedures.
  8. Evaluate new network technologies and make recommendations for adoption.
  9. Participate in on-call rotations to provide 24/7 network support and response to critical incidents.
  10. Conduct regular network audits and assessments to ensure compliance with industry best practices.
  11. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior network staff.

Expected Salary:

  1. Entry-Level : $75,000 to $85,000 per year
  2. Mid-Level : $95,000 to $100,000 per year
  3. Senior-Level : $110,000 to $130,000+ per year
